Editorial

In a time of accelerated social change, technological innovation, and global challenges that transcend the boundaries of individual scientific disciplines, interdisciplinarity is increasingly affirmed as a fundamental orientation of contemporary scientific research. The issues we face – from shifts in the international order, economic and geopolitical turbulence, climate change, social inequality, cultural and communicational transformations, to digital ethics and artificial intelligence – demand analytical frameworks that go beyond narrow specializations. Contemporary Issues At the core of the editorial concept of Suvremene teme lies the belief that interdisciplinarity is not only a methodological strategy, but also an epistemological response to the complexity of the world we live in. In today’s scientific landscape, the boundaries between disciplines are becoming increasingly permeable, and the interconnectedness of knowledge from different fields – humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and technology – is revealed as a necessity, not an option.

Based on our previous experience and the growing recognition of the journal Contemporary Issuesour intention is to introduce a new publication rhythm – two issues per year instead of one. This change is not merely technical in nature, but reflects a broader editorial ambition: to become more present in the scientific and public space, to serve as a platform for current research and in-depth analysis, and to further strengthen the journal’s relevance in both national and international contexts. By increasing the frequency of publication, we aim to provide more authors with the opportunity to present their research, and at the same time to reduce the waiting period for the publication of peer-reviewed articles. We hope that this change will encourage additional submissions of articles – whether original scientific, review, professional, essayistic or critical commentary.

In addition to regular issues, which remain open to a variety of topics and approaches, we are also launching the practice of publishing thematic issues, at least one per year. These issues will be dedicated to current and socially relevant topics that require multidimensional and interdisciplinary reflection. It is our intention, through collaboration with guest editors, scientists and researchers from various fields, to offer deeper and broader insights into the topics shaping our society and science. Thematic issues will also serve as a space for synergy between established and emerging researchers, domestic and international authors, as well as institutions engaged in interdisciplinary research. In doing so, we wish to further affirm Contemporary Issues as an open, pluralistic, and inclusive platform for knowledge.

In line with the above, we invite you to actively participate in the creation of new content for the journal – whether as authors, reviewers, thematic issue proposers, or collaborators in various editorial initiatives. We are committed to nurturing scientific quality, while also encouraging innovation, dialogue, and social responsibility. We look forward to new collaborations, topics, and challenges in the upcoming issues. Finally, but no less importantly, as the new editor of the journal, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the former editors Nikolina Borčić and Mirela Holy, who have achieved and maintained a high standard of quality for the journal. I also thank the members of the editorial board for their dedicated work in enhancing the quality of the journal. Your knowledge and editorial experience are a guarantee for the continuation of best practices in strengthening the journal’s reputation and influence within the academic community.
